Sally Beauty needed to train their retail associates on nail care techniques to help them in upselling nail products.
Typically, their retail associates are a younger female demographic that loves learning through play — Next Top Coat is a America’s Next Top Model-themed game, that mixes buyer personas and scenarios to challenge store associates on their product and sales knowledge. The game is fully multilingual and designed for iPads and tablets.
Retail associates compete against virtual rivals on a variety of challenges. In early game rounds, associates compete against newer rivals with limited product knowledge, to help build confidence. In later rounds, the rival is more experienced, requiring more knowledge and skill to succeed.
Associates may also use product-based cheat sheets for hints when needed. Thus, they practice using a resource available on the job.
Within 6 months, Next Top Coat resulted in $1.7M increase in Nails revenue, just from adding the game to onboarding.
