By understanding the AI tools and being clever and transparent with how they’re used, the LXD community can make good use of the technologies currently changing our world.
Understand the AI Tool’s Privacy Policy
If you haven’t ever been in the habit of reading the privacy policies of software or apps that you use, now is a great time to start. When clients or learners trust you with their data, you have an obligation to know how they’ll be handled by any third-party tools you upload them to. If you’re working with student data, then at the very least, you need to ensure that the AI tools adhere to privacy standards like FERPA, COPPA, or GDPR.
Some AI platforms collect learner behavior and performance data to improve their models. This can include how learners interact with content, how long they stay on a module, or how they answer assessments. Before you deploy any AI tools in your learning environment, make sure you understand, as best as you can, what data is being captured and how it will be used.
If you’re using AI features within an LMS, the platform may have a different privacy policy than a standalone tool. Take the time to compare both.
